OPEIU Local 251 Home

Can't Make a General Membership Meeting? We've got your solution!! We've heard from a lot of our members that they simply can't make the evening general membership meetings that we hold at 5:30 pm on the 2nd Thursday of each month. Well, we'd like to make you an offer. The new leadership of Local 251 will be holding "informal" lunch-hour meetings at Roper's Restaurant on the 2nd Thursday of each month. This is an opportunity for you to come have lunch with us, discuss your issues and concerns, and hear about what your union is doing for you on a daily basis.

Our third lunch hour meeting will be Thursday, April 8, from 12:00 - 1:00 pm at Roper's Restaurant (in the back room) at Wyoming and Central. We'll start the meeting promptly at 12:15 pm, to give folks time to get there and get seated. We'll end the meeting promptly at 12:45 pm, to allow folks time to return to their offices within the alloted lunch hour period.

Please pass the word to your co-workers about this opportunity to meet with your union leadership and find out what's happening with your union!! We look forward to seeing you there!

Announcements:
Our Vice President, Carol, has changed her last name. She is now Carol Bleicher and we'll be changing all of our rosters and websites to reflect that change. Please give us a call if you have ANY work related issues that you feel the union can and should help you with. --Carol Bleicher (Vice President) (284-9303) or Kelley Burns (President) (284-8620)

New Website!:
We are completely re-vamping our website in the next few weeks!! We'll be changing the look of our website to be more visually appealing, user-friendly, interactive, and informative. The new website should be "live" on the web in another week or two, by the end of March for sure! Look for a newsletter arriving at your home soon with all the website information.

OPEIU/AFLAC Partnership!
The OPEIU Leadership has partnered with AFLAC to offer AFLAC Supplemental Insurance policies to its members at Special Union rates. No one likes to think about getting seriously ill or injured. That's why it is so crucial to have a plan B - a contingency program in case the unthinkable actually occurs. At OPEIU 251 your plan B has a name ... AFLAC.

We have an AFLAC agent at all of our next General Membership meetings (next one is Thursday, April 8) to discuss the AFLAC supplemental insurance policies available to OPEIU Local 251 members and their families. Please plan to attend the meetings so you can get the facts!

Haitian Relief: OPEIU members are encouraged to contribute to the Haitian relief effort through Union Plus. Union Plus will match individual donations made to the AFL-CIO Solidarity Center's Earthquake Relief for Haitian Workers fund dollar-for-dollar, up to $100,000 total. This means a $10 donation becomes $20, $25 becomes $50 and so on.

Donations can be made at UnionPlus.org or by sending a check to: Solidarity Center Education Fund, Attn: Joan Welsh, 888 16th Street, N.W., Suite 400, Washignton, D.C. 20006. Please designate "Earthquake Relief for Haitian Workers" in the memo line of the check.

General Membership Meeting: Thursday, April 8, 2010, 5:30 pm, at the CWA Hall on Gibson & Truman Ave., behind Taco Bell. Please come!!
